Zuke’s Supers Treats Giveaway!

Supers one
I am constantly on the lookout for dog treats for my house. I need something that they are interested in… for training, our walks.. and just helping the behavior of my two rescue dogs. I really approved of the Zuke’s Supers Treats – the dogs remained interested in me while we went for our walk.. and I even managed to distract them from a squirrel.. and that, my friends, is HUGE! These treats are also the perfect size for training – not huge, but not so small you would lose them!
Who is this Zuke’s Company?
The Zuke’s Company is a dog (and cat!) treat company who I enthusiastically recommend. All the meats, veggies, and fruits used to make their products are sourced from the USA (except the Venison and Rabbit which is from New Zealand) and if you’ve read any of my other reviews – where ingredients come from are HUGE in my book. (I prefer to know that all the ingredients in the products I feed my dog come from a reputable location) What did I learn about Zuke’s? All of the products from this company are made with natural, real ingredients!
What exactly are the ingredients in the Supers?
Ground Oats, Tapioca, Beets, Vegetable Glycerin, Cranberries, Blueberries, Gelatin, Molasses, Raspberries, Blackberries, Cherries, Sunflower Oil, Natural Vegetable Flavor, Phosphoric Acid, Sorbic Acid (a preservative), Rosemary, Turmeric, Cinnamon, Citric Acid, Mixed Tocopherols.
**These treats are fantastic for gluten sensitive dogs, and are full of antioxidants! I must also say that I approve of there being Turmeric in these treats as well. Turmeric is a spice that has been known to have cancer-fighting properties.
Supers two
Did the dogs like the treats?
They sure did! Not only did Jameson and Morgan like them.. but the dogs I was pet sitting enjoyed them as well. There was not a dog in our household that turned their nose to this treat! (Quite frankly – the berry flavor smells just like a bagful of cranberries!)
What hit home for me with this company?
The Zuke’s Company donates a portion of every portion to the Dog and Cat Cancer Fund. This is a BIG, BIG deal… I will forever be standing behind the company.

Did the dogs like the treats?
Oh, yea! Jameson and Morgan were practically
knocking me over to get to the Rabbit and Apple formula. I found the Lil’ Links easy to break-up as well… so I could make the pups perform more tricks for one treat… sneaky, I know!

Wickett

I am posting this to simply help out a new ‘pet owner’ family save the life of their adopted 9 week old puppy. Within one week of being with his new owners, little Wickett was diagnosed with canine Parvovirus – which is lethal to puppies! (Most dogs are vaccinated again parvo with they receive their distemper vaccinations.) This couple needs a little assistance to help save their little guy! I would never of gotten so much done for Miller without the help of others! So please, even if it’s only $5 – donate!

Dog Food Review: Fromm Family foods

Posted on

frommsmorganjames

The one question I am often asked as a Veterinary Technician is which food I feed my own dogs. My response? Fromm Four Star dog foods. It is so important, in my opinion, that you feed your dog a high-quality food with high-quality ingredients… afterall- you are what you eat. What you feed your dog has an effect over the complete health of your dog. The one piece of advice I can give any owner is to always checkout and know ALL of the ingredients of your pets’ food. If you are reading over the ingredients of the food and are unsure what something may be – CALL the dog food company… you should always know what is in your dog food! Make sure you also know exactly where the ingredients are coming from (stay away from ingredients from China!). I could keep babbling-on about picking a great dog food, but instead – lets move onto my review of this dog food company. Fromm Family Foods sent me these various products to try to see how my dogs and I (not that I tasted them!) like the food. They asked me to then complete a review for each of the samples sent. Please note that in NO WAY or FORM was I told by this company to write any of the following, this is completely all MY opinion!

Four-Star Line

  • Grain-Free Game Bird Recipe

grain-free-game-bird-recipe

My honest opinion of this recipe of dog food could not be any better. I am a fan of this formula for a variety of reasons. The dogs absolutely LOVE the taste of this particular formula – and I … don’t mind the smell! Some dog food smell very strong and are typically not something I want stinking out my house – this one? Smells like chicken! The kibble size of this formula is also a big plus, it makes the food a good option for everyone from a maltese – to a great dane. What is my favorite part about most of the Fromm’s foods? The ingredients! The ingredients are as stated:

“Ingredients: DuckDuck MealPeasTurkeyRusset PotatoesPea ProteinDried Tomato PomacePea FlourWhole Dried EggQuailChicken MealChicken FatSalmon OilSweet PotatoesChickenPheasantWisconsin CheeseFlaxseedCarrotsBroccoliCauliflowerApplesCeleryParsleyLettuceSpinachChicken CartilagePotassium ChlorideCranberriesBlueberriesSaltChicory Root ExtractYucca Schidigera ExtractAlfalfa SproutsSodium SeleniteFolic AcidTaurineVitaminsMineralsProbiotics

Not only do these ingredients look good enough for me to eat, but this specific formula was rated a 5/5 stars on it’s dogfoodadvisor.com page which can be seen here: Fromm Four Star Nutritionals.

Would I recommend this product? YES! Absolutely.

  • Grain-Free Salmon Tunalini

grain-free-salmon-tunalini

This formula is by far my favorite out of all of the Fromms lines of food. Why, you ask? This is a fantastic formula for dogs which have allergies. Most dogs’ food allergies are due to beef or chicken – while this formula does have chicken liver and chicken fat present – the recipe does not seem to have any ill-effects on the allergies with my furry pair. While this formula does have a ‘fish’ odor – the benefits of the food for my dogs outweigh any smell at all. What do the dogs think? They beg for this one!

“Ingredients: Pacific Wild SalmonSalmon MealPeasRusset PotatoesPea FlourDried Tomato PomaceTunaWhole Dried EggSardine MealAnchovy MealChicken LiverChicken FatSalmon OilFlaxseedWisconsin CheeseMonocalcium PhosphateOlive OilCarrotsCeleryParsleyLettuceTomatoesSpinachZucchiniEggplantChicken CartilagePotassium ChlorideSaltChicory Root ExtractYucca Schidigera ExtractSodium SeleniteFolic AcidTaurineVitaminsMineralsProbiotics

This specific formula was rated a 5/5 stars on it’s dogfoodadvisor.com page which can be seen here: Fromm Four Star Nutritionals.
Would I recommend this product? YES! I now feed this food to my pups. I used to feed Fromm’s Whitefish and Potato but I have now completely switched over to this formula. The main reason? It’s grain free and they are doing fantastic on it!
  • Grain-Free Beef Frittata Veg

grain-free-beef-frittata-veg

This formula is also a favorite in our household. The food smells like you’re taking a steak out! The dogs were drooling while I was preparing their food… I like this formula, and the ingredients are still fantastic. The kibble size is still small – and it is grain free (which is all good!).
This formula was rated a 5/5 stars on it’s dogfoodadvisor.com page which can be seen here: Fromm Four Star Nutritionals.
Do I recommend this formula as well? YES. This wouldn’t be my first choice for a dog with allergies, but it is definitely a great choice for a dog who has no issues. (Again, beef and chicken are usually the top food allergies a dog could have.)

Dog Treats

  • Oven-Baked Parmesan Cheese (grain-free)

parmesan-cheese

This is the favorite dog treat in our household! Who doesn’t love cheese? I am not kidding when I say that this recipe smells like delicious cheese when you open the bag – yum! I keep this dog treat in-bulk at my home and am completely confident in this treat. I have seen recalls on many different dog treat products – but I am 100% trusting with this Fromm treat… and other than making my own dog cookies, this is the only other brand of treat allowed in my house.

Let’s check out the ingredients, shall we?

“Ingredients: Wisconsin Parmesan CheesePea FlourPotato FlourTapiocaWhole PeasChicken FatTomato PomaceCranberriesSweet PotatoesCarrotsApplesSplit PeasGreen BeansGreen Bell PeppersCeleryBeetsOreganoParsleyLettuceWatercressSpinach

What did the dogs think of this? Jameson wouldn’t stop licking his lips! He would do anything for these cookies!

jameslickinchops

This dog treat gets an A+ in our house.

  • Oven-Baked Lamb with Cranberry (grain-free)

lamb-cranberry

Fantastic ingredients. Perfect sized treat. Dogs LOVE it! I used these for training with Jameson and they were easy to break up into smaller pieces to give. We have and will continue to buy this treat!

Ingredients? Well, don’t mind if we have a look:

“Ingredients: LambPea FlourPotato FlourTapiocaWhole PeasChicken FatTomato PomaceCranberriesSweet PotatoesCarrotsApplesSplit PeasGreen BeansGreen Bell PeppersCeleryBeetsParsleyLettuceWatercressSpinach

What is my overall thought on the Fromm’s dog foods?

I do prefer the Fromm Four-Star foods – the ingredients are high-quality and all the foods are made in the USA. As a side note – Fromms does NOT outsource their ingredients – all ingredients are purchased in the USA. Fantastic, right? Most dog food companies can not say that all of their ingredients are purchased in the United States (where the regulations are more strict!).

I feed my dogs Fromm’s food – and have for the past three years. I highly recommend them (I even recommend their cat foods!) Are you not sure where to get your Fromm food? Go here to find it near you!

Happy Birthday – to my son.

Posted on

Never in my life did I imagine that I would be wishing my first born child a happy birthday – without actually being able to spend most of my days with him. Though Hudson was so small – the impact he had on his daddy and I .. was HUGE. Hence my favorite saying – “No footprint is too small to leave an imprint in the world”.

Happy Birthday Baby Boy – You would’ve been one year old today.

Hudson Edward D’Amarino

You’re the best thing to ever happen to us, we just wish we had more time.

Day 2 – Blizzard of 2013!

Posted on

We survived! Approximate total at our house? About 24 to 30 inches… hard to tell exactly because the drifts (as you can tell from the video) are quite large – as in some over 6 feet tall! Eddie (the hubby) was plowing for about 20 hours on Saturday.. and about 15 hours so far today (Sunday).

The dogs? They LOVE it! The only part the dogs are not appreciating about the storm is the fact that they can find the ‘perfect’ poop spot… darn snow! The best part about this weekend for the dog? We’re snowed in.. with power (and an oven).. so momma is making dog cookies! (stay tuned for recipes to follow!)

The Veterinary hospital in which I work has been without power since the very start of the storm on Friday.. so we evacuated the animals from the building (it was becoming brutally cold!)… so there are a few extra visitors in our household at the moment! They lost power Friday.. and it’s not expected to return until Tuesday evening/Wednesday! We shall see…

Overall? We can’t complain! Everyone is safe, warm, with full bellies (both the furry creatures… and the human ones!). I hope the rest of the area are back in their homes, nice and toasty – as soon as they can be!

Happy Storm!

Blizzard Feb. 2013 Day 1!

Day 1 – Friday – February 8, 2013
snowhfof

We’re holding up great here in Boston, MA! The blizzard of 2013 has just started… the snow began around 10am this morning.. and is slowly picking up speed. The photo above was taken at 1pm (EST) …. the video below – taken at 9:30pm! What a difference a few hours makes!

We’re doing well… snow is accumulating quickly… driving conditions are ROUGH… yes.. driving – There is currently a ban in Massachusetts that no civilian can be out driving unless they are a necessary worker.. or snow plowing/cleanup.. hence why I was able to go out. My husband plows! Checkout the crazy videos from our ride below:

Now with this last video.. I’m going to sign off for the night.. Our lights are barely staying on – so hopefully I can update the world tomorrow on more of the Blizzard of 2013!
